I (Andrew) will be attending SxSW Interactive in Austin, Texas next month (March 7th-11th). This will be my triumphant return to the Lone Star State, as I haven't been there since my last two-week winter training trip with Wisconsin Rowing. So, if anyone out there wants to either hate on me in person, buy me a drink, or both, you have a chance. While I'm mostly going for my own enjoyment, networking and general intellectual curiosity, I'm going to see if I can "cover" some of the panels and keynotes to see what the panelists aren't talking about, and how clueless they seem about the unintended consequences of a new idea becoming popular and gaining the scrutiny of people in my neck of the woods. Maybe they'll even issue me a "press" credential, but somehow I doubt it for this year.
Some of the discussions look interesting, some downright stupid. I'm sure there will be alot of buzzword salad being spit out. Speaking of which, Mark Zuckerberg is one of the keynotes. Too bad the guys who are suing him for "stealing their idea" are busy trying to make the Olympic team in rowing, otherwise maybe they could show up and learn a thing or two from people who actually get things done. Sometimes.
