The Des Moines Register reminds us that February 16th is the last day that carriers have to offer AMPS, better known as Cellular Telephone service. You remember, the kind that most people just had built in to their cars, or that looked like the one pictured here?
This won't affect most people, unless of course you have an older car with analog-only OnStar, in which case you were already screwed as of January 1st.
The really bad part is that in many places, old phones are given out by local police for citizens in need to use to dial 911.
I guess we can call this a dry run for next year.
